GREEK POWERS OF ATTORNEY

A Greek Power of Attorney is a document in which you, as the principal, give authority to a proxy (not necessarily a lawyer) to act on your behalf in Greece, as though you are physically present there yourself.

Powers of Attorney are used in Greece for a variety of purposes. Usually, a Lawyer or Authority in Greece which is requesting it will have drafted the document or described the powers you will need to assign. Here are a few examples of the reasons for which you may be requested to provide a Statutory Declaration:

  • Acceptance of inheritance in Greece;

  • Purchase of property, business and/or other assets in Greece;

  • Sale of property, business and/or other assets in Greece;

  • Acceptance of gifts in Greece;

  • Management of property and/or other assets in Greece;

  • Establishing and/or expanding business in Greece;

  • Taxation responsibilities in Greece;

  • Legal and/or Court representation in Greece;

  • Registration in Greece of Births, Deaths, Marriages etc;

  • Receipt of pension from Greece and

  • Other Legal, Business or Financial matters.

Every individual has a different reason for which they need a Power of Attorney. Thus, each specific Power of Attorney must be appropriately drafted by a notary public or lawyer in Greece. Exact specifications of the Power of Attorney i.e. buying, selling etc. in Greece must be included in the content.

After the Power of Attorney has been drafted, it must be executed at the Greek Consulate, or in the presence of a Notary Public, in the state you reside. There are a number of steps needed before the document is complete in order for it to be used in Greece.
